PREDATORY SPIDER MITES

California Ag Supply raises and sells the predatory spider mite Galendromeus (the same as Metaseiulus or Typhlodromus) occidentalis. This predatory mite is adapted to warm and hot weather areas. Our mite is used on but not limited to the following crops:

Almonds Cherries Grapes Melons/Squash

Nectarines
Peaches
Plums

Walnuts

There are a number of ways we are integrating the use of these predatory mites into pest management systems. With the use of miticides being limited by regulation and the need to keep plants growing at the optimum, there are very real uses for these predatory mites.

Predatory mites can be used as the base for whole field management of spider mites. In the hot climates of the San Joaquin Valley (particularly south of Fresno) this use of the mites requires an experienced Pest Manager. More often we use the mites for edges of the fields and in "hot" spots such as sandy areas of the field that may be water stressed. We combine this later use with miticides to keep the plants growing well throughout the season.

We send out regular newsletters via FAX or e-mail for each of these crops (with a emphasis on the conditions found in the San Joaquin Valley). To subscribe to this newsletter please FAX us at 661-663-9520 or e-mail us at mites@californiaagsupply.com. Tell us the crops you are interested in and we will keep you up to date.
