Almonds require cross pollination. The two adjacent rows
are not blooming at the same time. Supplemental pollen to achieve
cross pollination and nut set is required for maximum fruit set.
In
almonds, the largest factor in yield is nut set.
This must be a one row snow storm? Not quite. The
variety on the left has already shed its petals, whereas the variety on
the right is behind in the bloom cycle. Do you think the grower in this field
got 100% maximum yield ?
The almonds on the other side of this potato field show the
classic on-off pattern of bloom.
Maximum yields were not obtained
from a bloom pattern like this.
