NOW Monitor

General Question & Answer on NOW Monitor

The following are some general questions and answers about NOW Monitor.

1 -        What is NOW Monitor?

It is a pheromone monitoring lure for Navel Orange Worm (NOW) (Amyelois transitella).   The lures, a red colored rubber septum, are placed inside a sticky trap where they attract the male (NOW).

2 -        What type of trap should I use with NOW Monitor?

Use a standard 1C wing trap or Delta trap.     It does not matter which type of these types of traps you use.   The key in successful pheromone monitoring is to be consistent.    Use the same type of trap every year.

3 -        If I use a 1C Wing Trap should I have the bottom pulled up tight to the top like for Codling Moth or have more space between the bottom and top?

During our testing we caught less NOW moths when the 1CWing Trap bottom was pulled up tight to the top versus having 1 to 2 inches of space between the top and bottom.    See the web site section The Golden Rule of Pheromone Monitoring for guidance on this subject.

4 -        Does NOW Monitor sell the sticky traps as well as the lures?

NOW Monitor only sells the lures!   We do not the sticky traps!   You need to purchase the sticky traps from other sources.    See our links section for sources of sticky traps.

5 -        How long does the NOW Monitor lure last?

We recommend you change the lures every 30 days or 500 degree days.

6 -        Will the NOW Monitor lure capture female NOW?

No!   The NOW Monitor lure attracts only male NOW.

7 -        How many acres per trap should I use?

We recommend you have one trap every 20 acres.      Always put at least 2 traps per block.
