The Golden Rule of Pheromone Monitoring is consistency. There is a lot of variability in the orchards you monitor. By being consistent each year with the following details of monitoring you can reduce the natural variability in the orchard to a degree.
| 1 - | Be consistent in the type of lure you use. |
| 2 - | Be consistent in the type of trap you use. |
| 3 - | Be consistent where you place the trap and lure in the orchard (the same tree, same quadrant of the tree and the same height in the tree). |
| 4 - | Be consistent in how often you change lures. |
| 5 - | Be consistent in how often you take readings and put in clean sticky bottoms. |
With a new monitoring tool, like NOW Monitor, this is an ideal time to set up a program based on consistency. It will take time for the best and most conscientious PCA and grower time to really understand what information NOW Monitor is providing in each of their orchards.
