The pheromone monitoring lure is a mimic of a calling fecund female. When placed in a sticky trap in the orchard the impregnated red septum emits a pheromone that lures the male NOW to the trap where he becomes stuck. |
| By counting the number of males in the trap the Pest Control Advisor (PCA) or grower can better understand the flight pattern and population dynamics of the NOW in their orchards. From this better understanding should come improved control techniques and timings for this insect. | |
| Our ultimate goal, as providers and users of these lures, is not to catch NOW male moths in a sticky trap. Our ultimate goal is to have better information about the generation timing and population dynamics of the NOW moth so as to improve control techniques for the insect. | ![]() Navel Orangeworm is a major insect pest in almonds, pistachios and walnuts |
